Factors Influencing the Length of Time That it took for Elderly to do Suicidal Ideation, Suicidal Plan and Suicidal Attempt after Retirement in Korea

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to analyse the time of suicide - suicidal ideation, suicidal plan, suicidal attempt-, suicidal hazard rate per year, difference among elderly groups, and factors influencing the length of time that the elderly decide suicide. Research methods is empirical research by questionnaire survey. The subjects of the study are the elderly over 61 years old in Busan metropolitan city and cities of Gyeongsangnam- do province. The effect of factors on the occurrence-risk of economic problem was analysed using Cox¡¯s proportional hazards model of survival analysis. The findings are as follows; firstly, suicidal ideation risks of female elderly or sexagenarian were higher than the others. Suicidal plan risks of female elderly or elderly below graduated from elementary school were higher than the others. Secondly, occurrence risk of suicide was the most high within one year after retirement. But each year of suicidal risk probability appeared evenly without a concentrated in the year. Thirdly, the determinants of occurrence risk of suicide includes economic and emotional support of family, national pension or national basic livelihood security recipients, clinical depression, the burden of economical supporting. Such an analysis based on the results this article proposed reflection of the time of suicide in decision making and execution, the connection between suicide-prevention and financial support, retirees who are subject to priority education for suicide-prevention, efforts for suicide-reduction to every older generation, strengthen of national basic livelihood security and support of family to high risk older who have attempted suicide.
